Racing Games
Free driving games: top-down lap racing for one or two players, zombie-crushing road driving and physics hill climbing.
Why these games
The racing section is small on purpose: three games that each offer a completely different kind of driving. Speed Racer is our pick for two players on one device, Car Physics for players who enjoy mastering a tricky skill, and Zombie Uprising for quick, chaotic fun with a fuel economy.
Our ranking
Ranked by our overall score, which combines depth, accessibility, replay value and family-friendliness. How we rate games.

Drive down a zombie-filled road, crush the undead and watch your fuel.
Balance throttle and nitro to conquer bumpy tracks with real car physics.
How the three driving games differ
Speed Racer is a top-down lap racer: you steer around a looping track, avoid crashing into the scenery and complete laps as cleanly as possible, alone or against a friend. Car Physics is a side-on physics challenge in which your car has a real chassis and wheels; accelerating tilts it back, braking tips it forward, and keeping it upright over hills while managing fuel and nitro is the real test. Zombie Uprising is an arcade road game where you crush zombies for points while avoiding contact mines and explosive barrels and keeping your fuel topped up.
Getting better at driving games
Smooth inputs beat sharp ones: steering or throttling gently keeps the car under control, while sudden movements lead to crashes, spins or flips. Look ahead rather than react: anticipate the next corner in Speed Racer, spot mines and fuel cans early in Zombie Uprising, and read the shape of the next hill in Car Physics. Two of the three games use fuel, so keep an eye on the gauge.
Playing on phone, tablet or desktop
On desktop, a keyboard gives the most precise control in Speed Racer. Car Physics uses on-screen accelerate and brake pedals that work equally well with a mouse or a finger, and Zombie Uprising is a portrait game that suits a phone held upright. For two-player races in Speed Racer, a tablet or laptop shared side by side works best.
Which driving game should you choose?
Choose Speed Racer if you want something you can play with a friend straight away, or a quick solo score chase with a clear top-down view. Choose Car Physics if you enjoy learning a tricky skill: it is the slowest to master, but the most satisfying once you understand how throttle and brake tip the car. Choose Zombie Uprising if you want short, chaotic sessions on a phone — it is the only portrait game in this section — and you are comfortable with cartoon splat effects. Each game's review page lists its full data, including screen orientation and whether it saves your scores.

Game-by-game overview
Speed Racer
Speed Racer is a top-down lap racing game. Your car races around a track lined with trees and light poles, and every completed lap is counted. Dirt, tyre marks and crashes add drama as you push for the best time.
Best thing about it: Two-player mode on one device. Watch out for: Solo play is fairly basic.
Car Physics
Car Physics is a physics-based driving challenge. Your car has a real chassis, wheels and suspension, and the track is full of hills, bumps and wooden obstacles. Getting to the finish requires careful control of the throttle and brakes.
Best thing about it: Realistic chassis and wheel physics. Watch out for: Can feel frustrating until you learn the throttle control.
Zombie Uprising
Zombie Uprising is a road driving game with a zombie twist. Your car races along a road littered with zombies, and running them over earns points. But the road is also full of danger: contact mines, explosive barrels and fences can damage your car.
Best thing about it: Fuel management adds strategy. Watch out for: Splat effects — not for young children.
Frequently asked questions
Can two people race together?
Yes. Speed Racer has a two-player mode on the same device, with a separate car and speed display for each player.
What is special about Car Physics?
Its car is simulated with a real chassis and wheels, so throttle and brake change the car's angle. Keeping it upright on hills, while managing fuel and nitro, is the challenge.
Is Zombie Uprising suitable for children?
It is a cartoon driving game, but crushing zombies produces splat effects, so it is better suited to older children and adults.
