Stick Monkey review
8.0/10
By the GAME SPACE editorial team · Updated October 3, 2026 · How we rate games
Why these scores
A single, brilliant mechanic with no levels or modes.
One touch is the entire control scheme, and the portrait layout suits phones.
Each new platform is a fresh judgement, which makes 'one more go' very tempting.
A cheerful monkey and no violence at all.
Our take
A pure one-touch timing game that is perfect on a phone held upright. Judging each stick length is simple to learn and tense to master, which is exactly what you want from a two-minute game.
What we like
- +Portrait layout made for one-handed phone play
- +Instantly understandable
- +Every crossing is a fresh judgement
What could be better
- −A single mechanic — sessions are best kept short
What is Stick Monkey?
Hold to grow a stick, release to drop it, and walk the monkey across the gap.
Stick Monkey is a one-touch timing game. A monkey stands on a platform with a gap in front of it and another platform beyond. As the game itself says: hold your finger on the screen to stretch out the stick. Release, the stick falls across the gap, and the monkey walks along it.
If the stick is the right length, the monkey reaches the next platform and you score. Too short and the monkey falls; too long and it walks off the far edge. Every platform is a different distance and width, so each crossing is a new judgement.
Controls
- ▸Press and hold to grow the stick.
- ▸Release to let it fall across the gap.
- ▸The monkey walks automatically.
How it plays
Each round starts with a new platform at a random distance. You hold to grow the stick, judge its length against the gap and release. The stick rotates down and the monkey walks across.
Successful crossings add to your score, and the game continues with the next platform. One mistake ends the game. Your best score is saved.
Quick tips
- ★Judge the gap before releasing.
- ★Aim for the platform centre.
- ★Narrow platforms need extra care.
Getting a higher score
Use visual references
As the stick grows upward, compare its height with the distance to the next platform. With practice you will judge lengths almost instantly.
Aim for the middle
The middle of a platform gives you the most margin for error.
Stay calm
Rushing leads to mistakes. Take a moment before releasing each stick.
Getting started
- Hold briefly and release to see how fast the stick grows.
- Compare the stick's length with the gap before releasing.
- Aim for the middle of the next platform.
- Watch narrow platforms carefully.
- Beat your score on the next try.
Common mistakes to avoid
- ✕Releasing too quickly.
- ✕Overshooting narrow platforms.
- ✕Losing concentration on long streaks.
How Stick Monkey compares
Stick Monkey is the only stick-bridge game on GAME SPACE. Its portrait layout makes it especially comfortable on a phone held in one hand.
If you enjoy one-touch timing, Flappy Ball is a great next pick.
Deep dive
One-touch perfection
Stick Monkey is a pure test of judgement. There is only one input, and every round depends entirely on timing it correctly.
Endless streaks
Because the game continues until you make a mistake, long streaks are thrilling. The pressure builds with every successful crossing.
Who it suits
It suits anyone who enjoys short, focused games, especially on phones.
Portrait-friendly design
Stick Monkey is designed in portrait orientation, which makes it comfortable to play on a phone held in one hand. On desktop, simply click and hold the mouse button.
The wonderful bonus
Perfect crossings are celebrated with a 'wonderful' moment. Aiming for the centre of each platform makes these more likely.
How to get better at judging the stick
Almost every failed crossing in Stick Monkey comes from releasing a fraction too early or too late. The best way to improve is to build a mental reference. Because the stick always grows at the same speed, the time you hold the screen is directly related to the stick's length. Over a few games, notice how long you held for short gaps and long gaps, and you will start to feel the right length rather than guess it. Another useful trick is to look at the far edge of the next platform rather than the near edge: aiming for the middle of the platform means a slightly short or slightly long stick still lands safely. Finally, keep your attention steady during long streaks — the platforms do not get faster, but your nerves might.
