What is Ranger vs Zombies?
A side-scrolling platform shooter with a shotgun and three kinds of magic.
Ranger vs Zombies is a side-scrolling platform shooter. You play a brave ranger fighting zombies on the ground and in the air with a shotgun and three special skills: firestorm, lightning and freezing ice. Along the way you collect items, upgrades and coins.
The ranger can run, jump and double jump across the level while waves of enemies approach — ordinary zombies, big zombies and flying enemies. Ammunition is limited, so collecting ammo boxes and using magic at the right moment is the key to a high score.
How the action plays out
Zombies approach from the sides and from the sky. You shoot them with the shotgun and dodge their attacks by jumping and moving. Each of your three magic skills has a cooldown; once it is ready, you can unleash it to deal with a crowd or a tough enemy.
Boxes appear with ammunition, extra score or a temporary shield, and coins and lives can be collected too. The game ends when you run out of lives, and your score is compared with your best.
Controls
- ▸Move left and right and jump with the on-screen or keyboard controls.
- ▸Fire the shotgun at zombies.
- ▸Trigger firestorm, lightning or freeze once each skill has recharged.
Your first run
- Move and jump to get used to the ranger's controls, including the double jump.
- Shoot the first zombies as they approach.
- Collect ammunition boxes before your shotgun runs dry.
- Use your first magic skill on a group of zombies.
- Grab the shield bonus when you see it.
How to survive longer
Use magic on crowds
Firestorm, lightning and freeze recharge over time. They are most effective against groups or big zombies, so save them for those moments rather than using them on a single weak enemy.
Jump to dodge
The double jump is your best defence. Use it to leap over zombies and away from attacks, then turn and shoot.
Keep ammunition topped up
The shotgun needs ammunition. Watch your bullet count and collect ammo boxes when they appear so you are never caught empty-handed.
Quick tips
- ★Freeze big zombies to deal with them safely.
- ★Use the double jump to escape crowds.
- ★Collect ammo boxes before you need them.
Common mistakes to avoid
- ✕Wasting magic on single weak enemies.
- ✕Standing still while zombies approach from both sides.
- ✕Running out of ammunition.
Deep dive
Platforming meets shooting
Ranger vs Zombies combines platform movement with shooting, so you are always thinking about both where to stand and what to shoot. Flying enemies add a vertical element that keeps you watching the sky as well as the ground.
Three magic skills
The three skills — firestorm, lightning and ice — give the game a layer of strategy. Because each recharges over time, deciding when to use them is as important as using them at all.
Content note
This is a zombie action game with blood effects. It is cartoon-style rather than realistic, but it is better suited to older children and adults.
Shield and freeze
The temporary shield protects you from damage, and the freeze skill stops enemies in their tracks. Combining them can get you out of tight spots.
Who Ranger vs Zombies suits
Ranger vs Zombies suits older players who enjoy platform action. Its magic skills add a layer of strategy that rewards planning.
